Collier Crescent

Our brief for this West Brunswick front garden was to create a welcoming place that felt like ‘home’. We assessed the existing garden and removed old and unhealthy planting.

Our design honoured a cherished and statuesque elm tree. Its shade dictated the planting on one side of the garden. Using the existing framework of paths and beds, we have rejuvenated the planting and created new vistas.

Harmonious and seasonal, the garden is now as elegant and contemporary as the renovated Edwardian house. It balances privacy whilst still engaging with the street and neighbourhood. Planting spills out over paths, creating a relaxed generosity. The owner’s daughter helped select the various granite rocks which punctuate the garden and echo the colour of the house. A carefully pruned existing Jacaranda mimosifolia will shower the paths in purple petals, to match the purple daisies, Brachyscome multifida.

We were able to retain select plants from the garden, including a spirea which we pruned hard and moved in winter.

Foliage, form, flowers and scented plants each play their role in making this garden sing.  It is settling in nicely in its first season and providing much joy to all the family. A cup of tea on the verandah, under the dappled shade of the old elm, will be a delight in summer.
